Installation of the NRG 60m XHD Symphonie System Print E-mail
Monday, 01 June 2009

Notos has signed contract with Wellbury Wind Energy for an installation of 60m anemometer mast and the due date is 13th of June 2009.

Wind data collected from the anemometer mast during the site development phase will be compared with simultaneous data from the nearby Metering Office station at Zrenjanin.

The resulting correlations then will be used in combination with long term wind data from Zrenjanin to provide a view of the Belo Blato wind resource.

In turn this wind resource, taken with the turbine manufacturer’s power curves and our understanding of turbine wake effects and other losses, will be used later on to predict generation levels averaged over the life of the wind farm.

The NRG 60m XHD Symphonie System will be in place for 12 months period of time, afterwards it will be taken down and completely removed from the site.

Description of Mast

The mast will be 60m in height and will be a 'guided' tubular galvanized steel construction. Figure 1 below shows a schematic diagram of the mast.

Function of the mast - Reason for Application

The mast will be used to mount anemometers (wind sped measurement devices) and wind vanes (wind direction sensors) for collecting wind speed data, which is required to produce an energy yield estimate, for the area for a potential wind farm development.

Visual Impact

The meteorological mast will be a circular section tube approximately 250mm in diameter and 60m in height. It will have guy wires attached at several points along its length and there will be lightweight side mount booms branching out to support the wind measurement instruments. There will be no building or temporary foundations associated with the mast. The mast will be held in place by temporary steel anchors which will be removed once the mast is take down. All of the data loggers and batteries and solar panels will be located in a small environment enclosure mounted on the mast close to ground level for ease of access.

How long the mast will be in position?

The mast will stay in place for a period of 12 months which will be long enough to collect wind data for the study. Then, it will be taken down and removed completely once the necessary data has been gathered.
